STANLEY KUBRICK’S DEBT TO JIM THOMPSON

Let’s be clear:

Stanley Kubrick is the greatest film director of all time. Kubrick’s knowledge of photography combined with his chess prowess, I believe, set him up to take film to aesthetic levels unmatched both before and after his lifetime. He is a filmmaker the likes of which we will never see again. A virtuoso commanding his own wing in the museum of greats. Like Shakespeare. Like Charlie Parker. Nobody did it better.

Despite my contempt for the term GOAT, Kubrick is, in fact, the GOAT…
