Kubrick’s Flawed Farewell

In some circles, criticism of Kubrick’s final film, Eyes Wide Shut, is considered blasphemy. As with many Kubrick films, it’s gathered its audience over the years since its release. In the past, those who missed the genius of a Kubrick film the first time around picked up on it after subsequent viewings. Ask a dozen different fans of the old master what Eyes Wide Shut is about and you will get a dozen different answers. To some, it’s a painful examination of marriage. To others, it’s all a dream (which renders it, in my mind, pointless, as dreams themselves serve no conscious purpose). And to the paranoid…
